Rapid In-Field Soil Testing
Tadco utilizes Certified Environmental Field Test Kits for rapid in-field testing. These field test kits are uniquely designed “mobile lab” that tests for TPH (Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons) in soil and water by using a precise scientific method to produce colors to identify contaminants, both qualitatively and quantitatively. These test kits significantly reduce the time and cost and dependence on off-site lab analysis.
These “mobile lab” test kits can be used for various applications, for instance in:
- Phase II Site Assessments, to monitor the operating conditions of a remediation system.
- Site Investigation or Remedial Action Work Plan processes.
- Confirm that contaminated soils have been or need to be removed, and to monitor locations to ensure compliance within approved guidelines.
- Spill sites
- Post underground storage tank removal
- Soil and groundwater remediation sites
OUR SERVICES
The test kits combined with the visual and olfactory methods of analysis are currently recognized by the U.S EPA as a reliable field screening method for TPH in environmental matrices (EPA 1993). Also they are, although subjective, are deemed to be reliable for identification of TPH contamination and for estimating the concentration within an order of magnitude of the expected or certified value (US Army Corps of Engineers 2000).
The Test Kit achieves selection limits of 1.0 mg/kg for soil. The typical range of the test is 1.0 to 1,000 mg/kg for soil.
Advantages utilizing a field test kit include:
- Speed (takes 5-10 min for a result)
- Clarity of identification (color is developed in response to the presence of a contaminant and the resulting color is matched to a color chart supplied in the kit)
- Low cost per sample
- Wide Range (test for a broad range of petroleum-related chemicals)
- Accurate Results (results are scaled down in PPM – Parts per million)
